Customer-Led Strategy Premium pricing power

What will customers pay more for, and why?

Customer-led pricing power identifies which parts of your offer customers will genuinely pay more for, and which parts they take for granted no matter what they cost you to deliver. MindMarket works from what people say when they describe a real purchase, not a hypothetical one, because what people claim they would pay tends to collapse the moment a real decision is on the table. The result separates the attributes that carry a premium from the ones that are quietly eating your margin.

THE SITUATION

Is this your situation?

  • Your costs have gone up and you have no clear idea how much of that increase your customers will absorb, and how much will send them elsewhere.
  • You are delivering something expensive that you suspect nobody notices, and nobody inside the business wants to be the one to say so.
  • Two groups of customers seem to value completely different things, and you are charging both of them the same price.

HOW WE WORK

How does MindMarket approach premium pricing power?

  1. We name the pricing decision that is on the table. A price rise, a new tier, a bundle, or removing something you currently include: each of these is a different decision, and each needs different evidence. We start by agreeing with you which one it is.
  2. We explore real purchase moments rather than hypothetical ones. Instead of asking people to rate how much they would pay, we talk with them about purchases they have made, the trade-offs they weighed and the substitutes they considered. That is where the true shape of value shows up.
  3. We separate what carries a premium from what quietly costs you margin. You get a clear view of which attributes customers will pay for, which they will not, and what a defensible price move looks like, in the words your customers used to justify it.

THE DELIVERABLE

What do you get?

  • The attributes that genuinely carry willingness to pay, ranked, with the reasoning behind each one.
  • What you currently deliver that customers do not value, which is often the fastest margin win available to you.
  • Where the resistance points sit, and how they differ from one customer group to another.
  • The language to justify the price, taken from your customers rather than from your marketing team.
  • All of it as a Decision Case: one short written recommendation on the decision above, with the evidence under each claim, in a form your board can act on.

METHODS

Which research methods do you use for premium pricing power?

Most often in-depth interviews, with central location testing or shop-along research when the value sits in the product in hand or in the moment of purchase.

QUESTIONS

Strategy questions, answered straight

How do you find out what customers will pay more for?

We find willingness to pay by talking with customers about purchases they have made, the trade-offs they weighed and the substitutes they considered, rather than by asking them to rate a price. In-depth interviews and shop-alongs show which attributes carried the decision and which were taken for granted. The output ranks what you deliver by the value customers place on it, including the things you pay to deliver that nobody notices.

How long does a pricing power study take?

Most pricing power questions run as First Listen, two to three weeks, because they concern one product line and one market. When the decision spans several markets or a whole range, it runs as Deep Listen, eight to twelve weeks. Either way the conversations happen before any number is shown to customers, which is what keeps them truthful.

Is this a pricing study with a model?

No. We do the qualitative half, which is understanding why value exists and where it sits. If you need a quantitative pricing model, this is the work that should come before it, so that the model tests the right variables.

Can you do this without telling customers our prices?

Yes, and usually we should. Conversations about value are far more honest before a number enters the room.

What does pricing power research cost?

Pricing power research is priced per market on our pricing page, and most of it runs as First Listen because the question is usually narrow. If you go on to a quantitative pricing model, this qualitative work is what tells the model which variables to test. The strategy work is quoted after the framing conversation; your itemised quote arrives within 48 hours.
